Josh Leo out of Michigan started videoblogging about a month ago.
He found the Videoblogging group, followed the instructions, made a videoblog, and started posting.
But he seemed to feel that he missed the boat.
In January of 2004, Steve Garfield was the guy who made the battle cry.
Somtehig must of been in the air because a group of us started actively videoblogging since that summer…a time when no one was regularly posting video. It was a technically possible but overlooked part of blogging.
We grew to know each other well…eventhough we live around the world…because the richness of video has brought us close….and we chose to get personal and honest.
Since the ridiculously underplanned and highly successful Vloggercon in late January of 2005, Videoblogging has grown by leaps and bounds.
But because Josh felt an A-list was forming, he decided to make this video.
haha I love this.
What a classic video.
The last thing I want to hear is that Videoblogging is a cool club that excludes outsiders.
Videoblogging is simply a method of easily posting and distributing video to the web.
Communities will form…but I think we’re in a very open, naive period.
Like the summer of ’67.
Things will change and we’ll all laugh at this time.
I guess "videoblogging" is still so new that it seems like a cool club.
It’s like when "skateboarding" started….it was only the freaks.
My dream is that one day there are so many people adding videos to their blogs that the Videoblogging Group is forgotten.
Posting video to the web will be as normal as sending email.
And we’ll all know so much more about each other and the world around us, but who started it all won’t matter.
Who started email?
Who cares.
So Josh, the newest person is the most important.
Each of us has the responsibility to teach someone else.
You arent new anymore so you better be welcoming those new comers so they dont feel left out.
Keep helping us crush the cool clubs.

Let the Newbies come…lets help them along the way and let them surpass us in all that they do. Let’s all be aquals no matter how long we have been doing this. Let us watch without prejudice! I love the community…no matter who it is…all the vloggers are all aboout community. no one is too go to chat with. I love it.
amen.
Hahaha. I know exactly how you feel. I would have started video blogging ages ago if I could have afforded a camera earlier. I kinda feel like I missed the boat too.
When I got into this, I seriously thought I was gonna be the first one. You can imagine how shocked I was when I found out there were “famous” video bloggers already.
I saw Josh’s video and immediately felt a connection. In fact I’ve been a subscriber to Josh’s feed from his beginning. I’ve been vlogging since January and still I’m a poor schmuck with readers in the single digits (6 to be exact at the time of this reply). No one watches my vlogs and thats OK. I have fun doing it. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have anything controversial to vlog about, maybe it’s the name “The Southern Video Blog” that keeps people disinterested but I keep trudging along doing my vlogs when I can and letting a small part of the world, total strangers really into my life. Almost no one watches and hardly anyone comments but there it is just in case someone cares to watch and listen. Josh feels like he missed the boat… Jesus Christ!! in one month he had twice as many readers in his first month that I do four months into it. He feels like he is putzing along in a tug boat??? Then I’m in a leaky life raft and the sharks are circling but I keep trudging along making boring videos no one cares to watch.
yep.
i dont know the answer…but you just got to talk to people.
i remember wanting you to get a feed….but i dont remember you posting it to the group.
now im subscribed.
check out this recent video:
http://www.zipworld.com.au/~kashum/rbf.pl
ill be watching from now on.
im originally from TX myself…and lived in Atlanta for 2 years not too long ago.
its a place i love and hate.
we do need more accents in Videoblogging.
ok.. well in an attempt to increase the amount of newbies i’ve joined today and found josh’s video inspiring (and slightly depressing maybe) there was a boat that left.. that’s clear.. but maybe there’s room for more styles vlogging.. that way we get to have innovators in all areas..
most of the time i work on documentaries and get bored of editing editing… so for my blog
i’ve started with single extended moments.. am i worried if my feed reader deosn’t rise.. i’m not sure yet.. guess i’ll wait a month or two!!

Hey. Remember the good old days? When vloggers were just people and not conglomerated robot incorporated merchandisers?
Boy o boy, how far we’ve come.
Jay, this is probably just semantics but there were people regularly posting video well before 2004.
This video’s really good. He’s cutting through a lot of the bullshit. I like that. Cliques are a fact of life, but to deny that they exist is what I have an issue with.
Are you guys listening to podcasts too? I’ve been playing clips from you and Ryanne from time to time.
Oh come on Jay don’t kid yourself! I wasn’t accepted into the Yahoo Videobloggers group. I was also told by you that “Yeah you just have a website” I think I have the email still. I think your a joke and a hypocrite. Come really don’t be so concedeed as people have been doing this long before “you” Grow up.
hey Mick.
i have no idea what youre talking about.
no denied youre entry into the group.
you were in the group…then you dropped out.
just to be clear….a video on a website is not the same as a video on a blog.
simple technology. come on Mick….you know this.
a blog has comments, permalinks, trackbacks and RSS feeds.
i just subscribed to your feed on your site….that must be new.

the whole point…if you watch josh leo’s video…..is that anyone can make video can put it on the web. usually the more personal is better. the more people who do this…the better it is.
we can actually talk to each other rather than just sitting there staring at a screen.
what doesnt exist now is people sharing their lives through video….thats what we’re doing.
everyone’s invited.
you seem to have a lot of on your mind.
make a video of yourself and send me the permalink.
Jay,
funny how things change. I hope all is well with you and Ryan, Take care.
“yep…
you got a website now…
but a blog is better.
Jay
