  1. You are right: videoblogging HAS exploded… in my pants!
Congrats on being a part of a revolution… So you want to fly out at stay over for Webzine in Sept? You know you want to.

  2. David says:

We have our own universe and no other. Vlog on regardless.

  3. Zadi says:

i love when you narrate over your videos. illuminating. it was also great to see Michael in that video. He trained me at MNN – so say hello for me.
Happy birthday to the Vblog – who AGAIN is also Gemini. geez. :) nice to be part of it. Thanks for opening the doors.

    That was unbelievably powerful.

  6. alexander says:

Great video well narrated, theres so much to film in NYC.

  7. Wonderful. Aside from all the great work you are doing on ANT, and building the videoblogging community, I really enjoy the videos you post. You rock Jay.

  8. mariah says:

awesome as always, jay….. thanks for including a clip from our show!

  9. Josh Leo says:

What the Video-Blogging philosopher you have become Mr. Jay! I have always liked your videos and will continue to like them. This video was a great bunch of video snapshots into what has been going on in your life and your head. Thank You

  10. Markus Sandy says:

Very inspiring, Jay. So much here to think about. I love the “mainstream” and “prison” comments. Do you know this one from rumi?
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
    Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
    Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
    where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
    Don’t go back to sleep.

  11. Richard says:

First of all, I do know that rumi poem, and it’s great … very popular at Buddhist retreats … and, while we’re being philosophic here, it’s interesting that I watch this real craving arising associated with vlogging (sort of the dark side) where I want everyone to watch my videos and I want a million comments, and I want to become a world famous video blogger, but the fact is that, of course, this is not at all what it’s about and, in fact, it’s really about me sort of blending in to everyone else as all our lives sort of smoosh together in this video world where we all watch and edit and share each other’s work … ok I’ll stop already, but, I will say that’s why it felt so good to hear Jay say “You want the right 10 people to watch” … of course … great great video Jay, I’m glad you found some time to post again, since you’re one of those that inspired me to blog in the first place … Richard

  12. Brad says:

This was so great. The shot of the guy in the restaurant behind Ryanne blew me away. These shots, and your narration worked so well together. I feel like I had a whole month of the most awesome videoblog inserted into my head all at once. rock on.

  13. Clint Sharp says:

Very valid points as always, Jay.

  14. ryanne says:

i think we are both on the same “sum up the last 2 months in nyc” kick.
only i did mine a day before yours.
    and i had music.
so in this competition i like to call videoblogging, i’m gonna say i won.
    just kidding.
    i love you.
p.s. did you guys catch my 1950′s cat clock face?

  15. ryanne says:

p.p.s. the true meaning of videoblogging really comes down to BATTLE CAT.

  16. Dave says:

    Awesome vlog, Jay!

  17. backinblakk says:

hey jay – so glad to get another video from you. i always look forward to what you have to say.
i love that i’m not the only one who can stay up so late just working on videoblogs or watching videoblogs. I have been telling people about all this community and telling them about all the people I’ve met through the videoblog group – I don’t think they get it. Thanks for getting it…and helping create it.

  18. Lisa says:

Wow Jay – that was beautiful. Tranquil and also reminiscent, ironically, of cinecam footage being scratched together.
More videos. More ruminating. It’s all awesome.

  19. Chris Daniel says:

    Jay-
That video was great! I felt like I was in your head watching your thoughts. I also enjoyed the commentary, it added so much to the clips. This video was inspiring.

  20. starfire says:

I always tons of footage laying around. This video has inspired me to edit some together and get it out there.
Thanks for all the work you have done.
    vlog on scubatron.

  21. Max says:

That is a very good vlog, I really enjoyed it. As the old saying goes “You have hit the nail on the head”

  22. chuck says:

    that was lovely my man.
    your videos are always moving.
    i miss you guys.
okay, i’m gonna make a quick vlog today.

  23. Ed Stastny says:

I kind of grumble about “vlogs about vlogging” a lot of the time, but this entry had me from beginning to end. A wonderful ramble of image and sentiment. Inspiring, touching and fun. Thank you.

  24. Now with Enclosures!

For the longest time my feed was a crappy RSS 1.0 non enclosure feed.

  25. Will Luers says:

    Beautiful Jay!
You ARE the Jonas Mekas of the vlogoshepre.
“Let’s record the dying century and the birth of another man… Let’s surround the earth with our cameras, hand in hand, lovingly; our camera is our third eye that will lead us out and through … Nothing should be left unshown or unseen, dirty or clean: Let us see and go further, out of the swamps and into the sun.
    -Jonas Mekas”

  26. adam says:

that’s the most cat I’ve seen in one video in a long time.
    refreshingly catty.
and yeah, ryanne’s clock face was great.
this shit is so fucking fun!
    videoblog!
7 months ago I learned that term, now I live it.
you’re a good videoblogger, jay, and a good guy to boot.

  27. Richard BF says:

So good to have you back Jay. Great video. I’m against celebritism, but if there were a backbone of the community, you’d be it.

  28. Gabemac says:

I loved that posting. It encapsulated what videoblogging is for me. Teaching film I see SO MUCH TALENT that never gets to be seen. It is wonderful to see the pure creativity that comes from people experimenting with the medium for the first time, without budgets, without commercial goals. Just pure creation. I’m sure that commercial media will take over parts of our community, just like they are doing on podcasting and blogs. The only thing we can do is stay strong and support eachother. Encourage people to create, and give positive feedback, and let our community grow to beyond borders of countries, language, creed or race. That’s the beauty of what we are invovled with. One commercial aspect I would like to see is more cultural arts promotion. I know a lot of theater groups that don’t have the funds to advertise their plays. Vlogging can provide them with those tools to get more people interested in the arts. Unknown bands making thier own music stations. Philosophers discussing world affairs. It’s all possible, and it’s just getting started!
Whoever is reading this just remember, “We are the media. That includes YOU!”

  29. Jan says:

Oh, Jay! What a year it’s been for you and those who know & love you. And those you love. Thank you for including us in your vision by making media.

  30. jonjonbarros says:

    Story is great Jay!
    I love it!

  31. Nolon says:

Jay that was a cool video. Im not sure if I ever posted a comment here, but at times I check out whats going on here. I really enjoyed your thoughts and about that Seatle times article. Ah let them feel how they wish. It’s hard for some to understand even the internet. That alone is a wonderful thing. I think how if I was to grow up now and be around 5 with a pc. I would have less clutter, but what even more amazes me is if not by txt maybe by video,or just interacting one on one. People are able to get to know one another and for those young, but need help with school work. If they have access to this type of knowledge and are willing to be motivated. The pc is there to help. If someone has parents with very low interest in the students grades,or school work. Even if the parents alone have little education and is unable to help the kid the internet is a great solution and I know you really didn’t speak about that in general and everything, but I just had to say thats how I view this and that yes Video blogging and so much stuff online can take up your time. It amazes me so much as to how much on here im interested in,but I have always been interested in alot of everything I find online. It’s just nice that now everything is at my fingertips. But Seatle times,or at least the person who wrote the article has their own opinion. Just as we all have. Some people have a hard time grasping the things I,or others do,but then knowing people that are like that. I then gain my perspective on everyone as I see it. Not everyone is a gardener and not everyone is a mechanic. We all have our hobbys and interests. No matter what it includes. Some may find that people who sit at a pc all night is lazy, but you know as well as I do that isn’t so. I enjoy watching you it gives me things to think about and having that perception of your life into mine is wait that souns a little creepy, but having that knowledge of what is going on in someone elses mind is interesting. I get alot of annoying feedback from people because at times like now I’ll write a long post, but you know I don’t really have one sentence,or two sentence. I have what I have to say and most of the time I feel if you don’t feel like reading it then you wouldn’t of been interested in one sentence,or didn’t really care in the first place. I guess I’ll shut up for now as I can’t think of everything I want to say anyways,or can’t find a means to putting it together correctly. Maybe none of what I said made sense,or maybe I didn’t punctuate, something correctly. Enjoy anyways. :D Thank you for your time if you did read this That goes out to anyone who may read this.
    Nolon.

  32. melissa says:

that was really lovely..particularly the bits about mass media etc…..Also, it’s nice to watch both your and ryanne’s blogs that include each other…it leans stereoscopic.

  33. Kent Bye says:

I loved how much your MP4 camera looked like Super8 film.
That’s a great idea and I loved to get this snapshot into your attention stream.
Also really enjoyed the philosophical reflections as I’m about to get into vlogging soon as well.

  34. Anne Walk says:

    hi jay,
i love this video. it’s very inspiring. i posted it on my blog. hope you don’t mind. can’t get enough of you and Ryan!

  35. Damn dude… That was JUNE and I just went back today and watched it again. Stumbled upon it. It’s facinating, heartfelt and best of all it’s the truth… The truth is that nothing more need be “created” with these clips, no “show”, just this simple narative, your voice. I think it’s impront in this age where video blogging is rapidly monetizing that we remember that this is what it’s all about. Not the money, but what happens when we stop thinking institutionally and realize media is what we make it and with that implication comes a new propoasel for the world and that is that the world too can be what we make it. It’s an empowering vision. And it’s the legacy of open source, a legacy we have inherited and are moving virally as a meme.
The real message is the medium itself.
We’re leaving a legacy of personal mepowerment and creating mechanisms to give a voice to the masses.
I just went back and saw Erik Nelson of BottomUnion’s “Masses” video. It’s the bottom union. It’s the solidarity, it’s the opportunity for the meekest among us to have a voice and a say. The bottom union is the thing that connects us all. It’s our humanity… and we’re bringing it back. Folk is back, as I’m fond of saying. Communities, localism, diversity.. out is the fallacy that is mass media, mainstream, popular culture. They’re dead they just don’t know it yet.
    Peace,
    Mike
Yeah, I’ve got to re-vlog this soon. The timing is right.
