What is a videoblog?

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Ever since we all starting videoblogging as a community in 2004, we have been arguing/discussing/defining the term "videoblog". Richard BF in Australia has continued to maintain a very strong drive of keeping the definition very basic.

His explanation is well thought out.  I’m still processing his logic flow.
In his comments, I already see people who are angry because it leaves them out.

Why do we need definitions?
Well, you don’t.
BUT definitions does make it easier to discuss adn evolve an emerging artform, which is what I think videoblogging is.

As always, if you don’t like Richard’s definition, make your own. Blog about it.

Sustainableroute

Ashley is driving around the country for 4 months documenting what "sustainability" looks like.
You can also give her suggestions on where she can visit on her trip.
I love it because we can fund someone who is doing real research through video.
So DONATE!!!

Success: NODE101 Weekend

Friday, August 18th, 2006

We had a great success this past weekend. In 11 places around the world, videobloggers got together and hung out.

I live for this stuff because it’s events with no permission. Videobloggers are usually independent creators…and we all need to know we aren’t alone posting videos online. In San Francisco, at least half of the people who showed up were completely new and some had never videobloggeed. They were just there to see what it was all about. Perfect.

The Big lie: “Off the Grid”

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Ryanne and I just got back from a weeklong meetup in Montana. Scoble invited everyone to his Mom’s house to hang out. Ryan did a great job editing. we’ve gotten into a pattern where I shoot all my weird moments…and she makes it into a coherent story. We now have a community blog where we document the smart people/events/projects that we come in contact with.

The idea was to be "off the grid"…but I think it was more about being away from SF.
It was very cool to meet Montana geeks  who are usually invisible to the insular world of the Bay Area. Robert Scoble turned out to be extermely cool and easy to talk with. It’s pretty amazing to me how down to earth he is considering all the hype that surrounds him. His son, Patrick, is one of the smartest kids Ive met in a long time.
