SuperHappyVlogHouse

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Tomorrow (Sat, 3.31.07) we’re having a party at the Hat Factory. All are invited.
It’s SuperHappyVlogHouse which will help kick off the 4th annual Videoblogging Week.
Not only will there be plenty of booze and food…we’ll be making Creative Commons trailers that the community can use in their videos.

Here’s the plan:

4-6pm
: Discussion with the Creative Commons folks on why CC is
important in Videoblogging. Tech aspects, legal aspects etc. If more
videobloggers put a Creative Commons License at the end of all their
videos, awareness grows as our videos move around the web. Independent
creators unite!

6-9pm
: We’ll all make custom CC trailers that can be used in videos.
Schlomo has a stop-animation table, lots of space at Hat Factory, great
neighborhood for shooting.
Anyone new can team up with an experienced videoblogger to learn how
it’s done. Lots of video nerds will be available to answer any question
you’ve ever had. Bring your computer and camera…or use what we have.
No experience necessary@

9pm-????
: Screenings and party!! Plenty of free booze and food.

See you tomorrow at 4pm.
If you don’t videoblog or know what Creative Commons is…then you definitely must come.
We will provide everything.

Is Linux ready for video editing?

Monday, March 19th, 2007

To get videoblogging to spread in non-western countries, we really need to get free software for video editing. At this point, most people are just pirating software since $500 is like 2 months salary in many countries. You can’t buy FCP for that.

Linux has a lot of promises, but it never really looked good for editing video.
That may be changing.
Here’s a great article explaining how you edit video on these free tools.
Doesn’t look perfect, but getting close.

The whole process is not quick, and the software puts heavy demands
on the CPU, RAM, and disk space. However, none of these problems is
specific to Linux. As far as convenience goes, Linux may present a sharper learning
curve, but this learning curve is worth the trouble. Once you find your
way around all the steps, you will feel comfortable using the whole
chain. The stability and predictability of the free software, as well
as the active community of users and developers, is a huge asset.

Josh Leo over at WeAreTheMedia just announced the 4th annual videoblogging week.

You may have heard of Videoblogging Week before, well this year is going to be even bigger! April 1-7, seven days of vlogging. The goal is to post a video every day of the week. If
you want an extra challenge, pick a theme, limit yourself, or make a
different style video than you normally do.

Check out what everyone has done in the past. You can see how it’s grown in quantity and quality:
