VIDEO: Crazy_Arms

UPDATE: Both Ryanne and Schlomo correctly pointed put in the comments that I’m using a copyrighted song in this video (Cat Power). I feel like an idiot since we just put on superhappyvloghouse with an emphasis on Creative Commons. I have now taken off my CC license off this video. I’m emailing the CC people to see how they feel about using a copyright’ed song in a personal video. Jeez…i just like the music and want to be creative! These are the breaks.

Love this kind of stuff. Seems like you and Ryanne do a lot of these. I need to bring my camera out more. I actually shot some stuff yesterday, totally thought of you two while I was shooting “moments”.

  2. ryanne says:

    hurray for jay making videos!!
    i love it.
i hope cat power is cc-ing her music now….
    ah hem…

  3. Rupert says:

i have been sitting here for about ten minutes trying to work out how to tell you why i loved this film, but i can’t. everything i say is either not enough or sounds like hyperbole/overexuberance, so fuck it:
your choice of moments is _______ the music choice is _______ the photography is _______ the editing is ______ and the combined effect of all of them together almost makes me ________ :) )))
    thanks a lot

  4. delightfully sensual
    & with little snipits of
    haughnting climaxes
i love the way you jutoposition frames
my eyes widen, my eyebrows lift
i may let out a gasp then a sigh
for instance, arm waving shadow over
parallel white then you cut to
    what looks like fleash burning
    but is a hotdog
    Briziiliant!
    thanks for the ride
    you’ve hit my reset button

  5. tagami says:

The swimming bee has me mesmerized. The bike riders, the gulls, shadows… Moments in time. Wonderful!

  6. schlomo says:

    Me likee!
Question though: when putting a CC license on this, what about the Cat Power song? I use copyrighted music often without any attibution to the creator (like your video), and wonder what exactly is CCed here?
Does CC really matter if we are just taking from others without attribution anyway?
This is classic Dedman video; really nice on a Wed morning.

  7. cheryl says:

I’m gonna assume that after shooting you helped the bee get out of the water.

  8. Enric says:

The motion between shots (objects in frame, camera movement and zoom) is really nice.

  9. Kent Bye says:

Beautiful little video poem there Jay.
Loved all of the close-ups that pan back to the wide world.
So many other great clips in there as well.
    Thanks for sharing!
My favorite video from vbw07 so far.

  10. Your simple complexity leaves much room for meaning. Thank you for not filling in all the blanks, Jay.

  11. Nelson says:

I do love exploring Jay’s bug and texture fetish.
Definitely have a poetic eye, and I’ve always said
you should make more video, but then again, and I think
we’ve talked about it a little, that these videos might
not mean as much as they do, or have as much in them if
you did them every week. The images, time and life itself
    compounds the power behind them.

  12. jay dedman says:

schlomo and ryanne….you are absolutely correct. I should not have put on that CC license on the end. Im taking it off now.
but also…it’s illegal for me to use this song without permission..but i want to!!!
Jeez…here I am taking part in a CC weekend at superhappyvloghouse…and now im breaking all the rules. shit.

  13. aaron valdez says:

yeah man. it’s all about the compositional contrast between each shot. the scale is all out of whack. little planes little ants. surfaces. ahh gahh gahh. freakin that xacti.

  14. ryanne says:

p.s. i love the birds flying with the boat.
oh man that was cool in real life, also so cool to see it again months later.

  15. Mike Moon says:

    Great work.
Podsafe music. It takes a little longer, but some fantastic artists out there.

  16. chuck says:

    Love love love it.
I think this is my favorite kind of video.
Nice to see you making videos my friend.
Cat Power really makes it powerful… not hurting anybody.
I really want to make a single-take video with a classic Van Halen tune. Just need to find an old Chevy Nova, a guy with greasy 70′s hair and mirror shades.

  17. quirk says:

    For the discerning video entomologist:
    http://www.insects.org/entophiles/index.html
You are good at making videos.

  18. sull says:

    nice jay.
i’m a fan of starting with closeup shots myself… so i always enjoy those little surprises when others do it.
i’m going to make my next video with copyrighted music ;)

  19. Sergei Eisenstein says:

Beatufifully shot, thoughtfully edited, lovely lyrical poem.
    Congratulations.
I got here for the chicken vid which also was superb.

  20. Hello Jay, your videos make the ordinary look extraordinary. Keep it up ese!

  21. M a r y says:

I agree. I want to use TLOM but I didn’t because the author doesn’t respond to emails, etc. So, I used music from the ‘free music project’ instead. TLOM (the law of miracles would have been so much better.)

  22. B says:

Almost cried at work. At loss for words. Want more. Want to be that woman on the bike next to your car (and still want you in car next to bike). Want to see birds. Want to leave office now and film. Implied noun – I.

  23. joanna says:

whenever i think about putting copyrighted music on my videos (well, i always do) i think about the actual chances of getting sued.
i’ll probably regret this some day when i’m sitting in court, hahah (:
    but thanks for the comment.
dylan’s grounded right now, but i plan on making many wonderful videos with her when her punishment is lifted….

  24. Rupert says:

Watched again. And again. And again.

  25. Robert says:

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful art…

  26. Rupert says:

God, I still love this video. Close to perfection.

  27. Rupert says:

Have watched this several times in the last couple of days – and it’s only just occurred to me: this is like Eggleston! Video Eggleston!
